What is SingTogether?

SingTogether is an annual seven month musical outreach project, which runs from September to March.

We work with teachers and schools to provide a fun and engaging experience for the children and a confidence boost for teachers.

Over the six month period we offer:

• 3 hour Teacher Training workshops in Blackburn Cathedral
• Three sessions with the children within your own school
• Music for 8 group songs, all resources and recordings of each song to help you learn
• Email/phone support if needed
Teachers’ Concert in Blackburn Cathedral, six weeks before the concert
• Project culminates in a fabulous concert at King George’s Hall with 15/16 schools performing each night
• Opportunity to conduct your own choir if desired during a section of the main concert
• A fantastic opportunity to connect with other teachers and schools. Many have forged partnerships, performing their own concerts together

Why join us?

The synergy between the teachers and our outreach team is what makes the project so successful; supporting and encouraging teachers, providing them with fun, engaging musical ideas and skills.
A lack of musical experience within a department and funding issues can mean that children miss out on enjoyable and educational musical experiences and SingTogether aims to provide you with the confidence to deliver a fun and successful singing programme.

Through SingTogether, many of our teachers have gone on to set up their own choirs and we have had so many glowing testimonials from staff, praising our “winning formula”. The majority of schools take part again each year.
Through our Teacher Training days at Blackburn Cathedral, we will teach you the songs, talk about good practice of delivery and how to enhance the quality of your children’s singing. You will join other members of staff, receive copies of the music, a cd with clear recordings of each song and have access to a dedicated area of our website which houses the Teacher Resources page. Support is given throughout the project and each school will receive three workshop sessions within their own school grounds.

Six weeks before the concert, staff take part in a Teachers’ Concert within Blackburn Cathedral. This is a high energy, entertaining evening, designed to give you a run through of all the SingTogether songs and a chance to perform. Then in March the project culminates in a fantastic concert at King George’s Hall in Blackburn, with roughly 15/16 schools performing each night over the series of a week.

Last year we had an audience of around 1000 each night, and the atmosphere in the hall was electric.

We pride ourselves on the personal level of our project and unlike the big arena projects some schools take part in, you will be close to the stage and able to see and hear your school clearly.

It really is a wonderful project to be involved with and many schools return year after year. Take a look at our testimonials page to see how much is gained from signing up.

What songs will you sing?

During the project, you will learn 8 group songs. SingTogether is very proud of the diversity of the children taking part so each song we learn is of a secular nature.
We always select one song in partnership with the British Sign Language Association where all children and teachers will sign whilst singing on stage. For many this is the highlight of the programme and a spectacle to see.

We do not use backing tracks to perform to but use our live band for each concert, adding to the fantastic atmosphere in the hall. Throughout our training sessions we have a pianist who travels with us, unless of course you play the piano yourself and don’t need him!
